What Are The Two Types Of A Stroke?

There are two types of stroke:

Hemmorhagic: This is when a weakened blood vessel or artery in the brain ruptures or bursts and blood flows in to the brain. This may be referred to as an aneurysm.

Ishcemic: This is when a blood may not flow through a narrowed or blocked blood vessel or artery and may occur in two different ways.

  • Embolus: A clot may break free from somewhere else in the body and be unable to get through a vessel or artery in the brain; this is an embolitc stroke
  • Thrombus: A clot forms or breaks loose in a narrowed vessel or artery in the brain and is unable to get through the vessel; this is a thrombolytic stroke.
