Who Is Most Likely To Develop Hypertension?

In most cases of Hypertension, a direct cause cannot be determined.  Hypertension can be caused by many conditions such as smoking, poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, being overweight, lack of physical activity, and stress.  Genetics can also play a huge part in causing hypertension. 

Here is a list of individuals that are more likely to develop hypertension:

  • Smokers
  • African-Americans
  • Pregnant women
  • Women on birth control
  • People that consume large amounts of alcohol
  • Individuals that consume large amounts of salty foods
  • Individuals that do not get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity at least 3 days a week
  • Overweight Individuals
